Description:

Target group: • Mid-career and senior management professionals with some prior exposure to the application or theory of humanitarian issues. • Professionals with a background in development who believe they would benefit from a broader understanding of humanitarian issues and principles. Venue: Sida Civil Society Center in Härnösand, Sweden. Purpose: The goal of this event was to provide professional training to enhance the planning and operational capabilities of Swedish and Nordic NGOs in conflict areas. The objective was to address the challenges to which international agencies are increasingly exposed in conflict environments, which generates the need for the development of strategic tools to enhance the capability of these organizations in high-risk environments in terms of planning, communication, negotiation of access and security of staff.

The objective of the Advanced Training Program on Humanitarian Action (ATHA) is to enhance the knowledge of NGOs and other relevant actors operating in the humanitarian field, and to create greater awareness of the relationship between development cooperation and humanitarian operations in complex political emergencies.


Sida works according to directives of the Swedish Parliament and Government to reduce poverty in the world. The overall goal of Swedish development cooperation is to contribute to making it possible for poor people to improve their living conditions.
