The purpose of the course is to provide an opportunity for participants to acquire and refine the necessary professional skills to address humanitarian challenges through the framework of International Humanitarian Law. International Humanitarian Law (IHL) is the body of international law which regulates armed conflict including military occupation.

This course will offer operational training and instruction on IHL and particular focus will be put on the role and responsibility of civil society with regard to IHL.

The objective of the Advanced Training Program on Humanitarian Action (ATHA) is to enhance the knowledge of NGOs and other relevant actors operating in the humanitarian field, and to create greater awareness of the relationship between development cooperation and humanitarian operations in complex political emergencies.
