IHL in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory

Website:

http://opt.ihlresearch.org

Developed in consultation with the United Nations and other international agencies, this project focuses on issues surrounding the application of international humanitarian law in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT). Through policy and training support, the project aims to improve access to balanced information on international law and to promote the integration of legal and humanitarian analysis in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the Roadmap framework.

The principle objectives are to provide basic training on IHL, facilitate information sharing on critical legal themes within the UN and the local humanitarian and human rights community, and develop briefing notes on selected operational issues.

A complementary web portal was launched in April 2004 to provide online access to reference documents and original policy briefs. In developing this electronic library, HPCR places particular emphasis on the presentation of diverse legal perspectives and viewpoints. To further enhance access to information, the research team also offers a selection of materials translated into Arabic and Hebrew.
